Women’s Health Q&A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health is a comprehensive approach to the unique health challenges and concerns women face throughout every stage of their lives. Undergoing routine women’s health care is important to:

  • Track your risk of inherited diseases, such as breast cancer
  • Lower your risk of reproductive conditions
  • Undergo family planning treatments
  • Screen for chronic diseases
  • Manage your medications
  • Preserve your fertility

Dr. Hobbs specializes in all aspects of women’s health care at every stage of your life, from young adult years to senior years.

When should I see my women’s health care provider?

In general, Dr. Hobbs wants you to check-in at least once a year for an annual well-woman exam, even if you’re in good health. However, outside of these routine visits, there are times when you may need an evaluation. Book an exam with Dr. Hobbs if you experience:

  • Menopause symptoms, including vaginal dryness
  • Changes in your weight
  • Difficulty getting pregnant
  • Missed periods
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Pelvic pain

It’s also important to have a women’s health exam if you were exposed to a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or if you’re experiencing STD symptoms. While not all STDs lead to symptoms, some cause vaginal irritation, abnormal discharge, or visible bumps. If left untreated, an STD can permanently affect your reproductive health.

Which women’s health services are available?

Women’s health visits give Dr. Hobbs an opportunity to run preventive labs and screenings to ensure there aren’t any underlying concerns. He can help you with:

  • Weight management
  • Birth control counseling
  • Routine Pap smears, pelvic exams, and breast exams
  • Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
  • Yearly exams

As a board-certified OB/GYN, Dr. Hobbs also provides expert prenatal care, labor and delivery services, and postpartum care, so you have a go-to provider who knows you throughout every stage of your life.
